Firefox & You
From Mozilla, a non-profit organization and developer of Firefox

Hi there,

As 2011 comes to a close, we at Mozilla want to say thank you to all of our Firefox users, supporters and community members. Quite simply, we do what we do because of you.

Mozilla is the force behind Firefox, but we're also a whole lot more than that. And the more people I talk to, the clearer it becomes that not everyone knows what Mozilla is and how we're different. So today, I wanted to make sure you understand it because you're such an important part of our story.

Mozilla is a global non-profit fighting to keep the Internet safe, accessible and awesome. Our goal is to put the power of the Web in people's hands and to innovate for users everywhere. That means a better experience for you and a brighter future for the Web.

So what does that look like? We put together a short video that tells the story of what is possible when a small group of people – a community of idealists, innovators and collaborators – comes together to create, shape and build the future of the Web. Please take a moment to watch the video. If you like it, share it far and wide and consider making a tax-deductible gift to help support the work that we're doing together.

Mozilla is always developing new projects that allow people to dream, discover and create online. Whether it's Hackasaurus, our project that teaches kids to remix and shape the Web in a way that sets them up for a lifetime of creation, or Popcorn, which lets anyone bring the Web into video, we're building software and programs that will create the next generation of webmakers.

But as a non-profit, we can only do that if folks just like you support us.

As the year is almost over – and as part of our ongoing fundraising efforts – I'd like to ask you to make a gift of just $10 or more:

https://donate.mozilla.org/End-Of-Year

With your help, we can continue to innovate on your behalf without any pressure to compromise, and make the future of the Web brighter than ever. We invite you to be part of something bigger than the Web – something bigger than all of us.

Sincerely,

Mark

Subject: Firefox Challenge for Mozillians

Hello Mozillians:

As you know we launched the Mozilla Firefox Challenge and it will run through January 11th 2012.

This is a campaign that's being run in parallel and complementary to our own Mozilla Foundation's annual end-of-year fundraising campaign at http://mozilla.org/story, to support our work to do build a Web that is open, accessible, safe and -- most of all -- a force for good in the world.

The Firefox Challenge is about doing good for the world by raising money for social and humanitarian causes.

This week we're going to make it more interesting for all Mozillians.
Edward Norton worked with us to set up the Challenge and he is throwing in some amazing prizes for Mozillians who participate.

Up for grabs are 2 pairs of tickets to be seated and hang out with Edward Norton at the premiere of the Bourne Legacy and to also join him at the VIP after-party, as well as a Fight Club poster that Edward will sign for the winner personally.

• The first pair of tickets will go to the Mozillian who raises the most money for any cause.
• The winner of the second pair of tickets will be drawn randomly from all Mozillians who raises $1,000 or more for any cause.
• The winner of the personally signed Fight Club poster will be drawn randomly from all Mozillians who raise more than $25 for any cause.

All money donated or raised for any cause on http://crowdrise.com/firefoxchallenge from the start of the Challenge on December 13th until the end on January 11th counts (e.g. if you've already participated in the Firefox Challenge we'll count that.)

You can give to a cause that's already a part of our campaign or start raising money for your own favorite cause on the site: http://crowdrise.com/firefoxchallenge.

This is an internal giveaway for Mozillians registered on mozillians.org and vouched as core and active contributors to the Mozilla project including both paid and volunteer staff, except those living in countries subject to U.S embargoes. This is not open to the general public.
To enter, you will need to fill out an entry form where you'll include your contact details and the reference number(s) for your donations and/or the URL for your fundraising team:

This holiday season let's do even more good for the world!

Happy Holidays!
chris

Mozilla and Google Sign New Agreement for Default Search in Firefox

Good news:

Mozilla ký tiếp hợp đồng đặt Google làm trang chủ trong 3 năm.
Giá trị hợp đồng tuy không được công bố nhưng có lẽ không chênh nhiều
với hợp đồng cũ: $100M/year.
Đủ để cộng đồng FOSS tồn tại.

Cảm ơn Google, cảm ơn nhóm sales của Mozilla :)
---

We're pleased to announce that we have negotiated a significant and
mutually beneficial revenue agreement with Google. This new agreement
extends our long term search relationship with Google for at least
three additional years.

"Under this multi-year agreement, Google Search will continue to be
the default search provider for hundreds of millions of Firefox users
around the world," said Gary Kovacs, CEO, Mozilla.

"Mozilla has been a valuable partner to Google over the years and we
look forward to continuing this great partnership in the years to
come," said Alan Eustace, Senior Vice President of Search, Google.

The specific terms of this commercial agreement are subject to
traditional confidentiality requirements, and we're not at liberty to
disclose them.

Mozilla browser's security

Will Firefox Lose Google Funding?

"Mozilla's future looks uncertain. Last week Chrome overtook Firefox's position as the second most popular browser, the new versioning scheme is alienating some Firefox users, and now the advertising deal between Mozilla and Google, the one that almost fully funds Mozilla's operations, is coming to an end. One of Firefox's key managers, Mike Shaver, also left the company in September. 'In 2010, 84% of Mozilla's $123 million in revenue came directly from Google. That's roughly $100 million in funds that will vanish or be drastically cut if the deal is either not renewed or is renegotiated on terms that are less favorable to Mozilla. When the original three-year partnership deal was signed in 2008, Chrome was still on the drawing boards. Today, it is Google's most prominent software product, and it is rapidly replacing Firefox as the alternative browser on every platform.' Recently Mozilla has been trying to get closer with Microsoft by making a Firefox version that defaults to Bing. If Google is indeed cutting funding from Mozilla or tries to negotiate less favorable terms, it could mean Mozilla's future funding coming from Microsoft and Bing."

Official "Firefox With Bing" Released

"Mozilla is now distributing a version of Firefox that uses Bing as the default search provider instead of Google. Rest assured that this is a joint project, though: the creatively-named Firefox with Bing website is run by Microsoft, and both Mozilla and MS are clear that this is a joint venture. Now, don't get too excited — the default version of Firefox available from Mozilla.com is still backed by Google, and there's no mention of an alternative, Bingy download anywhere on the site — but it's worth noting that Mozilla has been testing Bing's capabilities using Test Pilot over the last couple of months, and the release of Firefox with Bing indicates that Mozilla is now confident in Bing's ability to provide a top-notch service to Firefox users. Mozilla might be readying a large-scale switch to Bing when its current contract with Google expires in November."
